I can see why they wanted to restrict the areas. Partly to keep people from only going there. I've been in groups that had members leave as soon as we got favor.

I think we should rethink the favor idea and make it something the PvE people need to do to get access. A quest if perhaps assension wasn't enough. I don't even like to go to these areas it's too strict. People get all upset too easily when someone does something wrong. Too restrictive for me. I like to work with one or maybe two people and heros or henchies. Lots less arguments. Perhaps if we can take the heros to these places I might give it a try again. But I definately think you should have some reasonable access to the elite areas in all 3 games and favor and faction is not the answer. As far as I am conserned you can split the games and remove the PvP all together and I would never miss it. Hey we even created our own guild just so people would stop asking us to join their's. I could not go into any city without at least 3 people asking. But the guild hall is a nice quiet place to sell stuff and meet with my partner.

So, I say free access! Well, not quite free the game did cost real money.

so im sorry but i cannot agree with the wanting to fix it...
I don't want to PvP to play PvE dammit. PVP IS BORING TO ME. They can cater to us and not lose anything in the process I don't know why people don't understand this. The people winning HA are doing it for themselves and fame, not for favor. It would hurt nothing to make it free to every country.

People are saying well Europe was like that, so deal with it! Well we aren't asking for only America to be able to gain access we're asking for everyone to gain access. Since it's so easy to Ascend now, why not add something PVE wise (note PVE is the special word) that lets you get in to FoW or UW. Who would it be hurting? NO ONE! Exactly so do that and lets see what happens. Makes changes, gain old players back, gain new players maybe and increase the fun overall.

Because Naruto, I like you, like making money, but it is fun just to go down there and kill things. Shards can still get you FoW, and regardless people do still notice FoW.

You could, of course, access them through the entrance at the Grenth-Monument in the Southern Shiverpeaks. You could even take an international team there.

Same for FoW, but that is somewhere in the Maguuma Jungle I think...

I like the system, it makes more people play PvP.

Alright, I agreed to this before, and I still do - it needs to be changed for many of the reasons posted many times before this post.

I just want to say this: I find it hilarious that this keeps cropping up everytime America is having trouble getting/maintaining favor for any length of time. I guess complain only when the issue actually affects you, huh? Just so typical. Yep, still laughing.

EDIT: BTW, Kurt, you can delete your own posts. Just a little FYI.

I for one, don't care about favor that much all I get is bad PUGs anyways. Thing is people in Japan and Taiwan have to come to America if they can because they never get to play in those places and they deserve to. Europe has a lot of Americans and Koreans on their side and that's why they win a lot, at least that's what I'm lead to believe. Because those people I see win for Europe come from Korea or came from. Or went back to Europe. I do see European guilds winning, and that's because they got good. But just saying.

Still take the favor away, add something challenging besides Ascending that takes skill to do and FoW/UW will be good for a while before someone figures out an exploit. Prices in Shards and Ecto might get affected a little, but not to bad, not as long as there aren't a mass of unskilled people going in like now when we get favor.

That's all taken from fact and the many many runs I've made to FoW. There are a lot of unskilled people.

I see you joined these forums feb 2006, but in the 6 months before that it was the other way, with americans saying the exact same thing about europeans on these forums anytime an european would complain about the favor system.

(btw i've been here longer then what my account info says, had another 1st).

Well European servers are mixed with a wide range of people in different time zones meaning that we have more pople playing when americans are not, however once upon a time it was american who seemed to laways have favor. You should really go to HA and fight for the right to go to UW/FoW afterall that is what your fighting for.

Also if it was open 24/7... can you imagine the botters? gg hopefulyl they wont change it.

If it only were America but think about japan and korea?? korea have the favor sometimes but not often at all.. and i realized that japan had their own favor-thingy a few days ago and i have played for 10 months...
They should scrap the whole favor system if you ask me..

Once again having to PvP to access PvE content when clearly some people (like myself) cannot stand PvP..is stupid.

It's very easy to make a hard situation or challenge, and require that to enter FoW/UW, but place it in PvE away from PvP. The two don't have to be so tightly knit together. If Anet wants to lean towards more PvP, forget the PvE content, throw some 1 million or so customers away and make it a full PvP game because sometimes, for some people..PvP can ruin PvE content. Granted if they put it open 24 hours with nothing but ascending it would suck, hence why I said PvE challenge or something that doesn't require PvP.

That way, skilled enough people, and i know a lot of you are out there, would be able to enter FoW/UW at any time of the day that they wanted to, considering they have a group. I don't like going to either place that much more anyways, I'm just trying to see a way around the favor which Japan, Taiwan and Korea hardly have. It's kind of unfair in a way because people can just go to one country and win for them all the time and let know one have favor. Those types of people play Guild Wars and play in HA and win. Not all of them but I'm sure a few of them do that. I'm not bashing PvP players I'm just saying some of them have as much hate pointed at us PvEers as we do them.

Because our Elite areas are tied to other people, and well other people don't get along with other people. PvPers well most of them from what I've seen and maybe I've been looking in the wrong place, but most of them seem to not give two damns and a nickel about PvE at all. Although I'm sure some of them like seeing their name winning for their country which they can do without Favor.

Meh, there have been tons of threads on this since day one and they haven't changed it. I honestly don't think they need to... I'm pretty sure there are some well "hidden" places you can get to both uw and fow without favor also. I'm not a big pvp'er, but letting them have the glory of holding halls and allowing entrance to pve areas isn't al that big a deal to me.

There aren't.

I honestly don't understand the opposition to this thread. How on earth would it hurt anyone if entrance to FoW/UW were unlinked from Favor?

Still waiting.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"No one complained about the unfair system when America always had favour!"
-) I did, for the same reasons stated above.
-) While relevent on a personal level... that argument means nothing. Would you -ever- expect the beneficiaries of a flawed system to crusade against it? Saying that a point is invalid, merely because the arguer didn't raise the point until they were negatively impacted by it... that's just silliness.
-) Explain to me when it was decided, that the value of an argument was determined by the person who said it.
"But the Koreans, Japanese, and Chinese/Taiwan servers don't complain!"
-) They also generally don't post at www.guildwarsguru.com or hang out in IRC's #guildwarsguru channel. Hadn't you noticed that this board is in English? Or are you going to try to sell me elephant repellent for my home, and when I say "but elephants don't live within a 50-mile radius of here" you will reply "see how well it works?!"...
"The game has been like this for X amount of time already. Why change it?"
-) The profession changers at the desert towns, and then at Senji's Corner, were a fact of life since the beginning of the game. Why bother changing it? (hint: there must be SOME reason, because ANet did! woot for ANet!!!)
-) The PvP creation screen has been a fact of life for about the same amount of time? It lets you make a PvP level 20 character in just a minute or two. Why bother changing it? (hint: ......)
-) We only have to deal with 8 skills on a bar at a time. Why should ANet write a bunch of new code to allow for automatic skill settings, when there's so much else they could be writing coding for? (hint: Do we see a pattern developing here?)
-) That logical argument is called the Appeal to Tradition. It's one of the basic logical flaws of rational debate. -1 points to you.
"Stop complaining. Get better at PvP and earn it back."
-) Because, it's so fair that I should have alter the basic orientation of my guild, from PvE oriented (which is why we want to go to UW/FoW in the first place), to PvP oriented so that we can hold Halls--and, after doing so, hope that my guild is still interested enough in PvE to take advantage.
-) There are plenty of people out there ALREADY trying to take Halls, for the sake of taking halls and not caring about UW/FoW. You would tell a bunch of PvE players to compete against them in order to do more PvE?
-) Check the times. Even if I turn my guild into a group worthy of rank 1 on the ladder (!), if my guild wants to go down during the American afternoon, we'll be facing off against the best that Europe has to offer, since that is their evening primetime. The deck seems a little stacked against us.
-) Even putting all that aside... you still need 5 wins in a row in Halls. With Halls being the rock-paper-scissors game in part, you'll have to pray for the luck not to run into a build that is designed to demolish your build. For example, a Tainted Flesh build loses a large portion of its power against Well of the Profane. Also, luck continues to be a factor even against 'normal' matches that don't have a rock-paper-scissor attribute. ^_^ After all, my rank XXXX [MEEP] has beaten Save The Dolyaks [NUKE] each time we've seen them in Halls--but I'm not about to try and declare that MEEP > NUKE.
The best solution would be:
1. Keep the current system in place, but
2. Allow access to any character that has attained "Protector of" the continent from which they wish to enter UW/FOW.
This would mean that any (ascended) character could access UW/FOW when their territory has favor, but a Protector could access at any time, from the continent in which he attained his title. This would provide a merit-based reward for PvE play, and encourage more players to complete missions, thus populating mission towns with more active players. This would also allow territories that do not get favor to access the content, but only after earning it.
The best thing is, this would benefit characters that have been really played, and not benefit farming characters specifically created to farm the UW/FOW. For this reason, it should be character, not account, based
Everyone wins.
You can't consider your 50$ to be a payment for access to every area in the game, because by that logic you also paid for Hall of Heroes, but you can't access it either.
But despite the fallacy of the original argument, yes, access to FoW and UW should be less restricted IMO. I'll outline a suggestion I posted on GWO about a year ago:
- There's a shrine of Balthazar and a shrine of Grenth in The Falls and Lornar's Pass, respectively.
- Add a repeatable quest to Ventari's Refuge and Beacon's Perch to escort a pilgrim (ex. smiting monk for Balthazar and necromancer for Grenth) to their respective shrine.
- When you complete the quest, the pilgrim gives you some exp as reward, prays at the shrine, and an avatar pops out regardless of your region's favour. Then you can enter FoW/UW.
There's still an advantage to having favour:
- You don't need to do the quest if you have favour (derf)
- You can only enter with a 6-man party max by doing the quest. Shouldn't really be a problem because if you can't clear Lornar's pass with 6 people you have no business in UW.
- The NPC is there to prevent farmers from accessing FoW/UW without favour. If I didn't have to keep a bitchy NPC monk alive from Ventari's Refuge to The Falls, I could easily run to the statue on the solo spider farming build and go to FoW.
Well, like a lot of the big-hair psuedo-metal bands of the 80's and 90's, eventually they just faded away...
Oh, wait...
You meant the continent?
